What is our content based on?
Home Affairs says all test questions are based on Our Common Bond and that the booklet is all you need to prepare. So we use the four testable parts of the booklet as our only source for questions and study notes. Facts about the test itself, such as the pass mark, come from official Home Affairs pages. See all our sources.
Home Affairs also says it does not endorse external courses or apps. That includes this site. We see ourselves as extra practice alongside the booklet, not a replacement for it.
How are questions written?
- From the source text. Each question tests a fact or idea stated in the testable section. No outside trivia.
- In our own words. We paraphrase rather than copy the booklet or any exam.
- One clear answer. Each question has four options, exactly one of which is supported by the source. Wrong options are written to be plausible, so they test understanding rather than guesswork.
- Values questions in scenario style. Many describe an everyday situation, because Part 4 of the booklet explains values through examples.
- Mapped to a topic. Each question belongs to one of the booklet’s testable parts, so topic practice and mock tests cover everything.
How are explanations created?
Every question has a short explanation that states why the answer is correct, in plain English, based on what the booklet says. Explanations link to the part of Our Common Bond they come from. We are gradually adding the exact section heading to each question as well. Where a section is shown, it has been matched to the source text.
How is AI used?
We use AI tools to help draft questions, distractors and explanations from the official text, and to help check the bank for duplicates and formatting problems. AI output is never published without being checked against the source text. We treat AI as a drafting aid, not as a source of facts.
How is content reviewed?
- Source check. Each question and explanation is compared with the relevant part of Our Common Bond.
- Automated checks. Every question must have four options, one valid correct answer, a unique ID, a topic and a source.
- Balance checks. We check the mix of topics and difficulty, and that correct answers aren’t predictable by position.
- Editorial records. Each content page shows when it was last updated. A “Reviewed by” line appears only when a named person has reviewed that page against the official source. We don’t display review claims that haven’t happened.
How do mock tests match the real test?
Mock tests follow the official format: 20 questions, including exactly 5 Australian values questions, with a 45-minute timer. They are marked using the official rule: at least 15 out of 20 overall and all 5 values questions correct. The readiness score is a study aid based on your recent results. It is not a prediction of your real result.
How do you handle corrections?
If you think a question is wrong or unclear, please email us with the question text. We check reports against Our Common Bond. Confirmed errors are fixed or removed, and the page’s updated date changes.
How is outdated information handled?
Home Affairs updates Our Common Bond from time to time. When the official resource changes, we update the affected questions and notes to match. Where the booklet uses deliberately general wording, such as “over 150 members” of the House of Representatives, we follow its wording rather than adding figures that may change.
What don’t we do?
- We don’t claim to have real test questions.
- We don’t publish pass rates, user counts or testimonials we can’t verify.
- We don’t give migration or legal advice.
